The Soenga serie is meant for people with a wholeheartedly connection to art and deep appreciation for individuality. The production process is entirely manual, making it all about nature’s own elements and showcasing the combined work of fire and earth.

We burn only up to 60 units a year, normally ending up with less than 30 vases that truly satisfy our quality standards and are a true exemplar of artistry.

Through a burning process that is carried only once a year, and that lasts 24 hours with the meticulous sustain of specific temperature levels, each vase ends up with an individual, unique and unrepeatable silver pattern, which grants each unit with an identity of it’s own, with traces of the organic components that went into the pit and embodying the rich tradition of generations past and human heritage.

These pieces become loudspeakers with a high quality, defined and characteristic sound, but first and foremost, into a testament of human making, bringing technology and crafts closer together, and empowering the hands of artisans to permeate this industry with inspiration, innovation, and potential.

Our clients have the possibility to choose from each vase available, tailoring the experience that in the ends brings regional identity and personality into their homes.

The quality of sound itself was wonderful, and an absolute masterpiece looks wise.
The first time the speakers arrived one of them cracked during transit from Germany to Hong Kong, but the Mapu team were very understanding and replaced it with a new one immediately. Can’t wait for the brown to come back to production and order those too.

I am really very happy with my Mapu speakers, they sound great, high fidelity bass tones and aesthetically go well in any space.

We have decided to buy the MAPU loudspeaker after an extensive test listening. The whole concept is simply convincing, behind this fair, ecological and exciting project are people who have developed a wonderfully designed and unique product. The sound of the speaker is absolutely convincing for its size, it plays up clear yet warm and never obtrusive. The body of burnt clay creates a unique sound. And as part of the decor in our living room, the MAPU speaker is an eye-catcher. We are always asked about it by friends. Even the loving and elaborate packaging made of natural fabrics is superbly done. The enclosed booklet provides further insight. I can only recommend the MAPU speaker.

It's great fun to unpack the Mapu speakers right away - the packaging is carefully designed with sustainable materials and can be put to a second use. No styrofoam! The start-up is completely trouble-free. Our living room of more than 40 square meters can be absolutely sufficient sound and the beautiful, very balanced sound inspires me again and again. I use the Mapus optionally with the CD player or the record player, which is simply connected to the integrated 3.5 mm jack via a small preamplifier. I'm delighted every day to see my speakers and even more so when, after switching them on, a characteristic klac-klac signals that they're ready for use. They not only sound wonderful, they are just as pleasing to the eye!

Ancestral "Soenga" firing technique

The oldest field-firing techniques reach back to dates from around 20,000 BC. The Soenga (potuguese for field firing) is still practiced today in the village of Molelos. Since 2017 the seven remaining potters join once a year in May in a firing event to keep the tradition alive. Each of them supplies ceramics for the joint firing. Fire is lit below the pre-heated, piled up ceramics and, after reaching 1000°C, air-tightly sealed with soil. Through a reduction firing a low-oxygen reduced atmosphere is created. Red iron in the clay turns into black and is enclosed in the ceramic surfaces, while flames and carbon leave some unique metallic grey patterns and color variations.
